Traveling with kids can be stressful, so I try not to worry too much about my sleep schedule while on the go. Here are some tips for managing kids’ sleep schedules while traveling internationally:

What I pack for trips like this

The things I actually use are in my Amazon store: my plane travel essentials list and my 3 to 5 year old travel essentials list. And my free pre-travel checklist is the list I use before every trip: you can get it here.

    1. Adjust to Local Time Gradually

Let’s say we land in France at 10 am local time (4 am home time). Instead of rushing to get the kids to sleep, we dive into local daytime activities and aim to sleep at local bedtime. It’s not perfect, but we adjust in a few days. This approach helps align their internal clocks with the new time zone gradually.

    2. Use Strollers and Baby Carriers

We let the kids sleep in strollers or baby carriers throughout the day. This method works great for younger kids and helps them adjust to the new schedule. Plus, it allows us to explore without having to head back to the hotel for naps. My favorite stroller is the baby zen yoyo.

    3. Noise-Cancelling Headphones

If we visit noisy places, we try to use noise-cancelling headphones for the baby. This helps in creating a peaceful environment, making it easier for them to nap on the go.

    4. Book Night Flights

Booking a night flight can be a game-changer. It helps the kids sleep through the journey and wake up in a new place, easing the adjustment to the new time zone. They arrive more rested and ready to start the day.

    5. Bring Comfort Items

Pack a favorite blanket or toy to soothe your child in a new environment. Familiar bedtime books and music also help. These comfort items can make a new place feel more like home, easing the bedtime routine.

    6. Hydration and Light Meals

Keep kids hydrated and avoid heavy meals close to bedtime. A hungry kid (or adult) can get cranky fast! Light, healthy snacks can keep them satisfied without causing discomfort that might disrupt sleep.

    7. Be Patient and Flexible

Be patient and expect some disruptions. It’s normal and usually temporary as your family settles in. Sometimes we miss day activities and that is ok for us. Traveling with kids means slowing down and being flexible. Embrace the slower pace and enjoy the journey.

    Conclusion

Remember, it’s all about creating a balance. Every family is different, and what works for one might not work for another. The key is to stay flexible and patient. By incorporating these tips, you can help make the adjustment smoother for your little ones, allowing everyone to enjoy the trip more.

Welcome to Rome, the city that captures hearts with its blend of ancient history, vibrant culture, and family-friendly adventures. At Mayana Voyage, we’re dedicated to simplifying international travel for families, ensuring every trip is filled with joy and wonder. This guide is your passport to exploring Rome with ease and enjoyment, making unforgettable memories along the way.

Here is a list of my favorite things to do there

    Where to Stay: Family-Friendly Neighborhoods

Monti: This central neighborhood offers a mix of historic charm and modern amenities. It’s close to major attractions like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, making it a convenient base for exploring the city.

Trastevere: Known for its picturesque streets and lively atmosphere, Trastevere is perfect for families who enjoy a bustling neighborhood with plenty of dining options. The beautiful Piazza Santa Maria is a great spot for evening strolls.

Prati: Located near the Vatican, Prati is a quieter area with wide streets and excellent shopping. It’s well-connected by public transport and offers a more relaxed pace, ideal for families.

Villa Borghese: Staying near this large park offers the best of both worlds: proximity to central attractions and a peaceful retreat. The park itself is a fantastic place for children to run around and explore.

    Must-See Attractions: A Family Adventure

Colosseum: The quintessential Roman landmark, best visited early or late to skip the crowds. Kids will love imagining gladiator battles and ancient spectacles.

Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica: These sites are rich in art and history. Book a family-friendly tour to keep the kids engaged.

Pantheon: This impressive ancient temple is a quick and fascinating visit, perfect for capturing family photos.

Trevi Fountain: A must-see landmark where you can toss a coin and make a wish. It’s a delightful stop for kids and adults alike, and it makes for fantastic photos.

Villa Borghese Gardens: Rent bikes or take a boat ride on the small lake. The park also houses the Bioparco di Roma, a great zoo for younger children.

Navigating Rome: On the Move with Ease

Public Transport: The metro, buses, and trams are efficient ways to get around Rome. Consider getting a Roma Pass for unlimited travel and discounts at major attractions.

Taxi and Rideshare: Taxis and Uber are useful for shorter distances or when traveling with a lot of luggage. Keep in mind that traffic in Rome can be heavy.

Walking: Rome is best explored on foot. Walking allows you to stumble upon hidden gems and historic wonders that you might miss otherwise.

Additional Tips for a Smooth Roman Holiday

Stay Flexible: While it’s great to have an itinerary, Rome is full of surprises around every corner. Allow some flexibility in your schedule for spontaneous discoveries or simply to enjoy a longer leisure moment in a park or café.

Embrace the Local Cuisine: Introduce your kids to Italian food beyond pizza and pasta. Visit local markets like Campo de’ Fiori or Testaccio Market for fresh, seasonal produce. And don’t forget to enjoy some delicious gelato at one of the city’s many gelaterias – it’s a treat the whole family will love!

Utilize the Roma Pass: Consider purchasing the Roma Pass, offering unlimited travel on public transport and free or discounted entry to many attractions.

Join Family-Friendly Tours: Look for tours designed with families in mind. Whether it’s a treasure hunt in the Vatican Museums or a cooking class, these activities can provide enriching experiences for kids and parents alike.

Pack for Rome Weather: Rome’s weather can be unpredictable. Bring layers for everyone, comfortable walking shoes, and a compact umbrella to be prepared for whatever the day might bring.

Keep a List of Kid-Friendly Spots: Rome has numerous parks, playgrounds, and green spaces. Knowing the locations of these can be a lifesaver for letting kids play and run around, especially after visiting more adult-focused attractions.

Stay Connected: Consider a portable Wi-Fi device or a local SIM card to stay connected. Having internet access on the go can be incredibly useful for maps, translating, and looking up information. I usually use eSIMs with Airalo when I travel.

Exploring the Colosseum in Rome, Italy is a must-visit for families! We liked it so much that we went there twice and explored it from every angle. My daughter especially enjoyed the tour of the ruins and walking in the footsteps of gladiators.

    Watch the video here

Here’s a guide to make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as ours.

    1. Getting There

One of the easiest ways to reach the Colosseum is by taking the metro. Head to the Colosseo station, which drops you off right at the foot of this iconic landmark. The convenience of public transportation makes it an ideal choice for families with kids.

    2. Skip the Lines

To make the most of your visit, grab your tickets online in advance to skip the long lines. This is especially important when traveling with children, as waiting in line can be tedious for them. Remember, you only need tickets to visit the inside; you can walk around the outside for free.

Here is a Tripadvisor link to book

    3. Accessibility

While elevators are available, it’s best to leave the stroller behind if possible. The Colosseum has many steps and uneven surfaces that can be challenging to navigate with a stroller. Instead, use a baby carrier for infants or toddlers.

    4. Best Times to Visit

To avoid the crowds, plan your visit for early in the morning or late afternoon. These times are not only less busy but also cooler, which can be more comfortable for the little ones. Plus, the lighting is beautiful for photographs during these times.

    5. Nearby Attractions

Don’t miss the nearby Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. These sites are rich with history and provide additional areas for kids to explore. The open spaces and ancient ruins offer a wonderful playground for their imaginations.

    1. Are all-inclusive resorts worth it for families?

Absolutely! All-inclusive resorts offer a stress-free vacation experience by bundling accommodation, meals, drinks, and activities into one price. This means no surprise expenses and a seamless holiday where everything you need is within reach.

Research is key. Look for resorts with family-friendly amenities, excellent reviews, and activities that suit your children’s interests. Websites like TripAdvisor, family travel blogs, and social media can provide valuable insights and recommendations.

    4. What’s included in an all-inclusive resort package?

Typically, an all-inclusive package covers accommodation, meals, snacks, drinks (including alcohol for adults), and a variety of on-site activities and entertainment. Some packages also include airport transfers, excursions, and childcare services.

    5. Are there any hidden fees at all-inclusive resorts?

While most all-inclusive resorts pride themselves on transparency, it’s always a good idea to double-check what’s included in your package. Extras like premium dining experiences, spa treatments, and certain excursions might come with additional costs.

    6. How safe are all-inclusive resorts for children?

Safety is a priority at family-friendly all-inclusive resorts. They often have secure facilities, childproofed rooms, lifeguards at pools, and trained staff to supervise kids’ activities. Reading reviews and choosing reputable resorts can add an extra layer of reassurance.

    7. What dining options are available for picky eaters at all-inclusive resorts?

Buffets at all-inclusive resorts usually offer a wide variety of food choices, including kid-friendly options. Many resorts also have multiple restaurants with different cuisines, ensuring even the pickiest eaters find something they enjoy.

    8. Can we leave the resort and explore the local area?

Yes! While all-inclusive resorts provide plenty of on-site activities, many also offer excursions to nearby attractions. Whether it’s a cultural tour, adventure activity, or a day trip to a local town, there are opportunities to explore beyond the resort.

    9. What kind of accommodations can we expect at an all-inclusive resort?

Family accommodations at all-inclusive resorts range from spacious suites to adjoining rooms. Many resorts offer family-specific rooms with extra beds, cribs, and kid-friendly amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for everyone.

10 Tips for Your All-Inclusive Vacation

This post contains affiliate links. If you book or buy through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Planning an all-inclusive vacation can be exciting and a bit overwhelming. Here are ten tips to ensure you make the most of your all-inclusive experience:

    1. Research Your Resort:
Not all all-inclusive resorts are created equal. Look for family-friendly amenities, read reviews, and check what activities and services are included.

    2. Pack Smart:
Bring essentials like sunscreen, swimsuits, and comfortable clothing. Don’t forget any special items like prescription medications or dietary supplements.

    3. Bring Reusable Water Bottles and Tupperware:
Pack reusable water bottles for young kids and Tupperware or ziplock bags to bring back food from the buffet breakfast or dinner. It’s a lifesaver for those mid-day snacks or when kids get hungry between meals.

    4. Book Excursions Early:
Popular excursions can fill up quickly. Book ahead of time to secure your spot and take advantage of any early booking discounts.

    5. Take Advantage of On-Site Activities:
Many resorts offer a variety of free activities such as water sports, fitness classes, and entertainment. Check the daily activity schedule to make sure you don’t miss out on any fun events or activities. Try something new each day!

    6. Plan Dining Reservations:
Some all-inclusive resorts have specialty restaurants that require reservations. Book these as soon as you arrive to ensure you get to try all the dining options.

    7. Ask for an Upgrade:
Email the resort a few days before your arrival to ask for a room upgrade or a better view. It doesn’t hurt to ask, and you might get a pleasant surprise!
    8. Book a Private Transfer:
Public transfers can take longer and make multiple stops. Book a private transfer to get to the resort faster and more comfortably, especially when traveling with kids.

    9. Keep Hydrated:
Between the sun and all the activities, it’s easy to get dehydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

    10. Explore Beyond the Resort:
If the area is safe, venture out and explore the local culture, cuisine, and attractions. Resorts often offer guided tours and excursions.

    11. Stay Safe:
Keep an eye on your belongings and follow safety guidelines, especially when participating in activities or exploring off the resort.

    12. Relax and Enjoy:
The beauty of an all-inclusive vacation is that everything is taken care of for you. Take the time to relax, unwind, and enjoy your time with family.

One thing about me is that I always find delicious food to eat on vacation. I mean, we all have to eat at some point, right? 😆 Dining out is one of our favorite activities, and yes, the kids come along too. Here’s how we make it work, along with some tips to help you enjoy dining out with your little ones while traveling.

    Enjoying Meals Together

We love exploring local cuisine and trying new restaurants. When there’s no kids’ menu available, my oldest just eats what we eat. We can always find kid-friendly options like fries, plain rice, or pasta. In the worst-case scenario, there’s always bread 😅. If there’s no high chair, the baby sits on my lap. It might not be perfect, but it works for us.

    1. Be Flexible

Flexibility is key when dining out with young children. Not every restaurant will have the amenities you’re used to, so being adaptable helps ensure everyone enjoys the meal.

    2. Bring Snacks

While waiting for your food, keep the kids occupied and satisfied with some snacks. This can prevent hunger-induced meltdowns and make the wait more manageable.

    3. Order Their Food First

If the restaurant is busy, order the kids’ food first to minimize the wait time. This way, they can start eating sooner, which can keep them happy and occupied while you wait for the rest of the meal.

    4. Bring Entertainment

Pack a small coloring book, crayons, or other quiet activities to keep the kids entertained while waiting. This can be a lifesaver in keeping them engaged and calm.

    5. Take Walks

If the wait is long, don’t hesitate to walk around with your little ones. A short stroll can help burn off some energy and make the waiting time seem shorter.

Making It Work for Your Family

These tips have worked for us, but you know best what works for your family. Every child is different, and what keeps one entertained might not work for another. The goal is to find a balance that allows everyone to enjoy the dining experience.

    Conclusion

Dining out on vacation with kids doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. With a bit of flexibility and preparation, you can enjoy delicious meals together and create wonderful memories. Remember, the key is to stay adaptable and keep the kids engaged while waiting for food. Bon appétit and happy travels!

    Quick Tips for Multi-Destination Trips

This post contains affiliate links. If you book or buy through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Planning a multi-destination trip can be both exciting and challenging. Here are some quick tips to help you navigate the logistics and make the most of your adventure:

    1. Book Multi-City Tickets

Instead of booking several one-way tickets, opt for multi-city tickets to save money and time. Use tools like Google Flights or Skyscanner to compare prices and find the best deals.

    2. Fly In and Out of Major Hubs

Major hubs like London or Paris offer better connections and more flight options. Starting and ending your journey in these cities can make your travel more efficient.

    3. Allow Enough Time Between Connecting Flights

Give yourself ample time between connecting flights to avoid the stress of rushing through airports. This is especially important when traveling with kids, as it allows for bathroom breaks, snacks, and a bit of rest.

    4. Consider Flying Into One City and Out of Another

Maximize your travel experience by flying into one city and out of another. This can save you time and give you the opportunity to see more places without backtracking.

    5. Ensure You Have the Correct Visas

Make sure you have the necessary visas for all the countries you plan to visit, including transit visas if required. Check visa requirements well in advance to avoid any last-minute surprises.

    6. Pack Light

Packing light makes it easier to move between destinations. While this can be challenging with kids, try to minimize what you bring. Opt for versatile clothing and pack only essentials to keep your luggage manageable.

    7. Get Travel Insurance

Invest in a travel insurance policy that covers cancellations, delays, and other potential issues. This provides peace of mind and financial protection in case something goes wrong during your trip.

    8. Opt for a Local SIM or Regional eSIM
